Title: A Practice for Presence
Purpose:
A practice is an action or activity done repeatedly with the intention of building your capability and competency leaving you more able to deal with your challenges in your own way.
The purpose of this practice is:
To increase your capacity to remain present
To increase your capacity to connect with your body
To support you in creating a safe space for yourself
Instructions:
This practice can be done anytime, anywhere, all you need is a few minutes and your five senses.
Begin by taking three deep, belly breaths. Inhaling through your nose, exhaling through your mouth.
Look around you and identify five things that share something in common (they can all be the same color; all have wings; have a similar shape; etc).
Listen carefully and identify five distinct sounds.
Notice five sensations (the breeze on your face, the chair beneath your bottom, the cold glass desk beneath your hands).
Now pay attention to how it smells. How would you describe this smell?
Lastly, taste. What can you taste? Is it faint, overpowering?
Conclude this practice by taking three more deep, belly breaths. Inhaling through your nose, exhaling through your mouth.
Duration:
Continue this practice daily to increase your capacity to remain present and connected.
