Title: Self-Care Surprise
Purpose:
A practice is an action or activity done repeatedly with the intention of building your capability and competency, leaving you more able to deal with your challenges in your own way.
The purpose of this specific practice is to:
Support you in prioritising your self-care
Get your creative juices flowing so you can feel excited about your life
Replace feelings of overwhelm with actionable items
Instructions (Done when, where & how often):
Part 1
Grab a journal and set aside some time for yourself.
List ALL the activities that bring you joy!
Eg: going for a walk; drinks with girlfriends; yoga; a hot bath; going to bed early; a craft project; a camping trip; etc.
These activities should range in time, energy and price, so that you have a long and varied list.
Part 2
At least once a week, close your eyes and pick one item from your list and go do it!
Optional extras for the creatives
You might consider creating and decorating self-care index cards that you can shuffle and pick
Or create a rolodex
Alternatively, you can write down all your activities on little pieces of paper (like a fortune cookie) and put them in a vase.
Reflections & learnings:
After you’ve completed your activity, spend some time reflecting on the following questions in your journal:
How did it feel to prioritise myself today?
What am I noticing about myself as a result of this practice?
Duration:
Continue this practice for at least three months
Network of support:
Enlist the support of someone close to you by sharing with them that you are embarking on a journey of self-care and adventure.
This person can check in with you to see how your practice is going and hold you accountable.
